The Year Four team comprises of Mrs Hills, Mr Connor, Miss Tahir, Mrs Arshad and Mrs Schofield.
School day
The school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:15pm. The children will need to be at the gate a few minutes beforehand. Children will use the Year 4 gate, to the left of the school. A member of the year 4 team will open this at 8:40. We will leave school onto the main yard.
Homework
Homework is given out on a Thursday and must be returned on the following Tuesday. Homework always consists of maths using IXL, spelling and reading. It is vital that your child reads every night. They must also spend at least 5 minutes per day practising their times tables. This can be done on TTRS, hit the button or using the following website; https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/
PE and Swimming
This year, children will attend swimming lessons for half the year and do PE lessons at school as normal for the other half. 4H will attend swimming from September to February half term and 4T will do PE at school first and have their swimming sessions from February half term to summer.
Children should come to school wearing their PE kits on their allocated PE days. For Year 4 this is a Thursday. Children may wear joggers rather than shorts in the cold weather but these must be black and appropriate for movement. Children should also wear their trainers on PE days which should be plain black.
Times tables
As you are aware, there is a multiplication check in the summer term of year 4 where our children will be tested on their times table knowledge. This will comprise of 25 quick fire questions which test the times tables from 1 to 12. In order to prepare for this test, it is paramount that the children know all of their times tables and can recall them quickly. They can practise this using TTRS and online games.
Year 4 Termly Letter to Parents
Year 4 visited Cliffe Castle as part of our topic on the Egyptians. We spent time exploring artefacts in the museum and taking part in a workshop with some Egyptologists. We had a wonderful day and learnt an awful lot.
Well, this week really has been a MADD week! We have had so much fun in year 4 with our music, art, dance and drama sessions. We studied an artist called Mondrian and looked at how he used straight lines and block colours to create incredible pieces of art. We used his technique to create our own Christmas inspired artwork. We made Christmas cards using a paper folding technique called origami and designed snow globes containing a Christmassy picture of ourselves. We also had a wonderful party where we danced, sang, played games and ate lots of yummy food!
This half term in year 4, we have been studying food technology in our DT lessons. We have designed our own pizzas based on criteria for certain people in our lives and are looking forward to making them in the weeks to come.
This week, we were lucky enough to have a visit from a local Italian chef! He showed us how to knead the pizza dough and how to toss it in the air. He used his homemade secret recipe tomato sauce with mozzarella for the topping. We really enjoyed sampling the pizza; it was excellent!
Today we had a visit from the wonderful Masters of Martial Arts who performed some of their moves for us. They also ran workshops for each class in school where every child was able to learn some mixed martial art moves. Everyone had an incredible day and we are really looking forward to the start of our MMA club!
For our DT topic this half term, we have been designing our own pizzas. Today we were able to make them from scratch! We used a recipe from our Italian chef visitor and worked in groups to weigh out and mix our ingredients. Once they were combined, we turned out the dough onto a floured surface and each had a turn kneading our dough before putting it under the radiator to let it rise. Once risen, we kneaded it again and split it up into sections. We each used the techniques learnt from Mario to create our pizza shape. Then we sped passata sauce on the top before adding our toppings. After they were baked, we tried them and were really impressed with our creations!
Year 4 were lucky enough to receive some money from our Friends of Bradley team to spend on new books for our reading area. We bought so many fantastic books from a range of genres and authors and were all really excited to get our hands on them for the first time! We spent a lovely afternoon having a reading café where we took time to sample a variety of the books and write up our thoughts on each. We are very excited to continue reading the new additions to our book corner.
Tag Rugby
Both classes have been enjoying Tag Rugby sessions led by coach Darren from Colne and Nelson Rugby Club. Here are some photos of the children in action.
